Claude Max API Credits: How to Claim $100–$200 a Month (and Pick the Right Org)
Claude Max includes $100–$200 a month in Claude API credits, but you must claim them by linking a Console organization. Here are the 3 steps and the organization mistake we made.
Claude Max API credits are a monthly Claude API allowance included with paid plans: $100 on Max 5x, $200 on Max 20x, and up to $500 on Team. They are not added automatically. You claim them by linking a Claude Console organization under Billing on claude.ai, and anything left unclaimed or unused is lost at the end of each billing cycle.
Tested on: our own Claude Max 20x plan ($200 monthly credit), organization linked on 11 Oct 2026, credit use confirmed in Claude Console after one API call. Below are the exact steps, plus the organization mistake we made so you can skip it.

Key results
- Max 20x gets $200 a month in API credits, Max 5x gets $100, Team is capped at $500 pooled.
- Claiming takes 3 steps: Billing on claude.ai, Link organization, then check Promotional credits in Claude Console.
- We linked the wrong organization first: the credit sat at $200 while our real API calls were still charged to a card.
- After switching to a key in the credited organization, one call moved the balance from $200.00 to $199.99.
- Credits expire each billing cycle and don't roll over.

Anthropic announced the credits alongside Claude Haiku 5.5 on 7 Oct 2026. New subscribers can claim after 7 days on an eligible plan. Plans bought through the iOS or Android app are eligible, but you claim on claude.ai in a browser, not in the app.
How to claim Claude Max API credits in 3 steps
- On claude.ai, open Settings › Billing (Max) or Organization settings › Billing (Team).
- In API credits, click Link organization, choose the Claude Console organization that should receive the credits, and link it. You can create a new Console organization during this step.
- In Claude Console, open Settings › Billing. The credits appear under Promotional credits with their expiry date.

How to pick the right Console organization
Your Claude Max API credits go to whichever organization you link. Each plan links to one Console organization, and you can't change it yourself. Only Anthropic support can. So before you click Link organization, make sure you are choosing the organization that holds the API key your app actually uses.
We got this wrong. On 11 Oct 2026 we linked our personal organization, but the key our site runs on lived in a different organization. The credit sat untouched at $200 while every API call was still charged to a card. We only noticed when Console showed the credit hadn't moved.
Quick check after linking:
- In Console, open API keys for the linked organization and confirm your app's key is listed (compare the last 4 characters).
- If it isn't, create a new key in the credited organization and swap it into your app.
- Make one API call and watch Promotional credits. A lower balance (for example $200.00 → $199.99) means the credit is being used.

What do Claude Max API credits cover?
| Covered | Not covered |
|---|---|
| Claude API | Claude Code |
| Claude Agent SDK | Extra usage in the Claude apps |
| Claude Managed Agents | Claude on AWS, Bedrock, Google Cloud, Microsoft Foundry |
| Console Playground |
The credits don't change your usage limits in the Claude apps or in Claude Code (where you run things like Claude Skills). Every API key and workspace in the linked organization draws from the same balance.
What happens when the credits run out?
- Credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and don't roll over to the next month.
- If the organization has no other credits, API requests stop until the next monthly credit arrives. Usage is never charged to your Claude plan.
- If the organization has purchased credits, those are used next, and auto-reload, if turned on, charges the card on file.
Frequently asked questions
How much are Claude Max API credits worth?
Max 5x includes $100 a month and Max 20x includes $200 a month. Team plans get $20 per Standard seat or $100 per Premium seat, pooled and capped at $500.

I linked the wrong organization. What now?
You can't change the link yourself, so contact Anthropic support. In the meantime, create an API key inside the organization that received the credits and use that key in your app.
Why don't I see API credits in Billing?
Ineligible subscribers do not see the section, either because they are on the wrong plan or have been on an eligible plan for under 7 days. If you are sure you qualify, contact support.
Do the API credits work in Claude Code?
No. Claude Code and extra usage in the Claude apps are not covered. The credits apply to the Claude API, Claude Agent SDK, Claude Managed Agents and the Console Playground.
